What a fantastic and insightful article; my father came from the area and I spent all my holidays visiting the Aberavon and Swansea areas, with a great number of friendly relatives and strong community network; all gone. I loved being there, in the 60's and even into the 70's. The beach at Aberavon, was a joy; wonderful gardens, funfair , beach shops, very few dogs and no owners would dream or dare to foul the area, unlike now, a pigsty of litter and dog mess, set in a bleak concrete dump. It is heartbreaking to see the good old architecture of the area being destroyed and jerry built new buildings being erected; new builds will never improve with time, only get worse.
